Work began on a
project for the conservation of the
historic site of Umm-Qais, in northwestern Jordan.
The project is part of the Euro-Mediterranean
Youth Program that the
Jordanian
Ministry of Youth and Sports and the European
Commission agreed upon earlier in 2001. The
Umm-Qais project is being carried out by the Irbid
Youth Center in collaboration with the Department
of Antiquities at the Ministry of
Tourism and Antiquities and the Institute of
Archaeology and Anthropology at
Yarmouk
University in Irbid. The project includes the
participation of youths from Italy, Jordan, Spain, and Syria,
and consists of workshops on conservation, excavations, and
discussions of conservation experiences in the participating
countries. |
