November 2000 Each of the Departments of Architecture at the Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST) in Irbid and the University of Jordan in Amman participated in the Second Arabic Architectural Exhibition for Graduation Projects in Beirut, Lebanon, which the Lebanese University organized. The Department of Architecture at JUST initiated the idea of the exhibition and organized the first one in October 1999. Natheer Abu Obeid, associate professor at the Jordan University of Science and Technology in Irbid and chairman of the university's Department of Architecture, was appointed adjunct professor at the Union Institute in San Francisco, California in order to co-supervise a Ph.D. dissertation being written there on form, meaning, and semiotics in Islamic geometric patterns. Tawfiq Abu Ghaza, faculty member at the Departmentof Architecture at the University of Jordan, was promoted to the rank of full professor.
