November 2000 The Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority held a workshop in which governmental and non-governmental organizations discussed the environmental dimensions of the development of the Aqaba Comprehensive Organizational Plan. The workshop discussed issues relating to the expansion of construction, land use, and infrastructure development for the Aqaba Special Economic Zone over for the upcoming 20 years. The city of Aqaba will be designated as a special economic zone as of January 1, 2001. The Scientific Committee of the Architectural Section at the Jordan Engineers Association (JEA) held a seminar entitled The Architecture of Palestine.
